Meaning of Samayik and Pratikraman
This Sunday we Started preaching Samayik and Pratikraman to my 7 years old daughter in traditional way. While preaching her or while I had dialogue with my mother in law, I was constantly thinking, we should spread this message for more parents and kids. I am trying here to be as general as possible as a process of 'Shaping Mind Sofware' from as early childhood is a need.
Old Ancient Jain technique to shape up mind software for ‘Right
Belief, Right Knowledge, Right Conduct’.
I will address questions and answers with Jina here.
I will address my mother-in-law here as her Guru.
I will address my mother-in-law here as her Guru.
Kid: What is Samayik and
Pratikraman?
Guru: Do we hurt someone? Knowingly or unknowingly?
Kid:
Yes
Guru: So then what do we feel or have to say? Sorry. Right?
Kid:
Yes,
Guru:
So Pratikraman means we see our mistake, ask for forgiveness and commit to
ourselves that we will not repeat this mistake neither we will hurt someone. We
ask strength from universal power or almighty Gold for that.
‘Samayik’ means introspect.We think
- 1) why did we hurt someone?
- 2) Why did I hurt in this manner?
- 3) Did I want others to do as per me?
- 4) Or to fulfil my likings?
- 5) Did we hurt because of our obstinacy/stubbornness?
So we do analysis our thoughts in Samayik
that why we hurt someone?
Why does this mistake often happen with
this person?
Do you have any prejudices against him?
Or any other expectations?
In order to clear off the reasons behind it
we do Samayik.
Kid: What is the Result of this?
Guru: Suppose if there’s a rope tied to my
hand and yours too. Now if you jump or pull the rope, will I get hurt or will
feel force?
But what if I untie this rope from my hand?
Now no matter how much you jump, will I get affected?
Kid: No.
Guru: Similarly if I clear off my faults then I
won’t feel attachment or abhorrence/disgust for you/others also. So now if someone
taunt me or arrogance, I will not feel hurt.
So now even if he behaves badly I won’t
feel anything against him Because I have cleared off my mistakes. It is to
become free from your faults.
One feel liberated when do Samayik or
Pratrikraman consciously.
That’s why one should do Samayik and
Pratikraman.
Guru: No Individual can cause you
unhappiness. Our own mistakes like Anger-Pride-Deceit-Greed cause us
unhappiness.
So more we wash or clear our Dosh, we feel
Dosh Free. We feel more liberated. Clear in our thoughts and eternal happiness.
After process of Introspection, if we have time, we practice seeing everyone as 'Pure Soul'.
The more we feel it, the more easy for us the whole process.
During 48 minutes our mind must concentrate in introspect and for that we try and be in sitting relax and statute position as much as we can. then it become easy to dive deeper within.
At the end, we seek forgiveness to universal power, to Lord that 'I tried my best, however if my thoughts, words or actions still I am doing wrong, please forgive me and show me right path'.
